Our vision
The Sophia Waldorf School Initiative was born out of a desire to cultivate a school community rich in purpose and values lead by Rudolf Steiner's philosophy. Currently, we are the only registered Steiner School Initiative located on the sunny Gold Coast and we hold this special opportunity with warm reverence and love as we move forward into an exciting future. We are excited to build a school on the foundation of a deep understanding and recognition of child development from the perspective of Anthroposophy; offering a homely space for teachers to meet children at the point between wonder and knowledge, carefully and skill-fully guiding their own desire for learning and connecting with the world around them.
Our Philosophy
We hold a deep respect for the unfolding human spirit and a belief that education should nourish the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Guided by the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, our approach fosters wonder, creativity, and a conscious connection to nature and community. We aim to inspire students to grow into free, thoughtful and purposeful individuals who meet the world with courage and compassion. Our values are lived by encouraging rich artistic expression and meaningful relationships, through a curriculum that honours the rhythms of life, cultivating not just knowledge but wisdom, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.
Community
At the heart of Sophia Waldorf is a warm and vibrant community built on connection, collaboration, and shared values. We believe that education is a collective journey, enriched by strong relationships between teachers, parents, and students. Our community is intentionally nurtured to be inclusive, welcoming, and supportive—where families feel a sense of belonging, and children thrive within a safe and caring environment. Whether gathering around seasonal festivals, supporting classroom activities, or engaging in school projects, the spirit of togetherness is felt in all that we do.
School progress
The Sophia Waldorf School Initiative began in 2019. Since this time we have been blessed to have formed a strong community of families who connect with us through playgroups, workshops, festivals, working bees and gatherings, further enriching our purpose, conectedness and mission. It has been sheer will, determination and a whole lot of heart that has kept this dream alive and we are now reaching the final stages of bringing the dream into reality for the Gold Coast Community as we finalise the location of our school site and a strong foundational team.
Sophia Waldorf School will begin with up to three classes, comprising of a suitable combination of Prep, Class one and Class two, depending on the cohort that is enrolled. Each consecutive year, it is the vision to add another class, working towards a school that will offer prep to year 12.
